Meet Alex Rapp: Tech Guru and Car Enthusiast

Welcome to the Leadfoot Automotive Podcast, where we're all about helping you leverage technology to boost your auto shop's profits and minimize stress. In this inaugural episode, we're thrilled to introduce you to my amazing co-host, Alex Rapp.

Alex and I have been working together for nearly a decade, and I can confidently say that his dedication, expertise, and innovative thinking are unmatched. He's been instrumental in transforming Gateway Auto from a traditional "pen-and-paper" shop to the thriving, efficient business it is today.

So, who is Alex Rapp?

A self-proclaimed car enthusiast with a passion for anything on wheels, Alex's journey started with bikes, skateboards, and racing simulators before he finally got his hands on the real deal. He's a proud owner of a fully built 3000GT VR4 and an Eclipse GSX (for all you car people out there!), and his love for the automotive world is infectious.

But Alex's talents extend far beyond the garage. With a background in technology and a knack for transforming legacy businesses, he's spent his career helping companies embrace the digital age. From building websites in his teens to developing digital revenue products for giants like Berkshire Hathaway, Alex has always been ahead of the curve.

Bridging the Gap Between Tech and Tradition

Alex's journey with Gateway Auto began during his college years, where he and Joe connected at a workshop. Coming from a forward-thinking, innovative environment to a small, family-owned shop that relied heavily on traditional methods was a definite culture shock.

One of Alex's first major contributions to Gateway was introducing digital vehicle inspections (DVIs). At the time, DVIs were considered a "big dealership" thing, and there was resistance to adopting this new technology. But Alex persevered, demonstrating the power of DVIs to build trust and transparency with customers.

The results spoke for themselves. Within months, Gateway saw a significant increase in their average repair order, proving that even small shops could benefit from embracing digital tools.

Beyond DVIs: A Holistic Approach to Digital Transformation

Alex's impact on Gateway Auto goes far beyond DVIs. He spearheaded a complete overhaul of their online presence, optimizing their website and implementing SEO strategies that catapulted them to the top of Google search results. He also played a key role in transitioning the shop to a modern shop management system, streamlining operations and improving efficiency.
